WordPress Exact Steps To Setup For Online Business

Learn how to set up your WordPress Hosted website so you have full control.


Your Website Blog


.COM versus .ORG


.COM Free account


It’s free. Good.


You don’t have full control of the back end.


They only allow you to do limited plugins for .COM service


.ORG hosted WordPress Installation.


  • It’s free to download the WordPress Installation Package.

  • Requires domain registration and web hosting account

  • GoDaddy Domain Registrar

  • Hostgator Webhost

  • Once it’s setup you have full control of everything.

  • Advanced consulting and setup services available.

 


WordPress Website Installation


Set up your own WordPress Hosted blog. (NOT WORDPRESS.COM)


FIRST Create a Notepad text file to record your administrative data as you set up.


Save the file in a well known place. I use Customer Files/CustomerName/FileFolder/File


  • GoDaddy account, username and password.

  • Hostgator Cpanel Login, username and password.

  • FTP host address, username, and password

  • Hostgator database name, username, and password. Local host or IP Address

  • WordPress Admin username and password.

  • Login at http://websitename.com/wp-admin

Hosting can be obtained for about $70.00 / year at Hostgator


o   A domain on Godaddy costs between $2.99 and $50.00 for most domains.  Premium exceptions.


  • Godaddy for domain registration.

  • Top level domains .net, .org, .com mostly taken.

  • New top level domains .buzz, .ninja, .tips etc…..more expensive (better names)

  • Pointing your NameServers from GoDaddy to Hostgator.

o   Creating a new hosted domain space (website) on Hostgator


  • Use FileZilla to upload your FTP files to your web host.
    • FTP= File Transfer Protocol (don’t panic)

    • This is a way to move your local files to your server storage.

    • FTP Account. Built in to webhosting. Primary FTP Account.

    • Upload the WordPress package for installation.


o   Creating a database on your web server. MySQL


o   ADVANCED. Use Dreamweaver to access the back end for advanced editing.


  • Advanced users only for editing HTML, PHP, CSS and various web files.

  • HTML=Hyper Text Markup Language the most common language of the web.

  • PHP= Personal Home Page, now stands for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor.

  • CSS= Cascading Style Sheets used to control styles consistently throughout a website.
